Meet your Mechanic
Travis has been an avid bike rider since childhood. He and his brother built jumps in the front yard and rode slickrock in Moab before it became the mountain bike Mecca it is today. Travis started wrenching on his own bikes in seventh grade, earning the money to buy parts by working at his Grandpa Frank’s café. He became friends with Mike, the mechanic at Rose Park Schwinn, who would let him work on his bike in the shop during off hours. It was from Mike that Travis learned how to use his meticulous personality to tune his bicycles to absolute perfection.
At age 15, Travis began BMX racing at the Coliseum at the Utah State Fair Grounds. He practiced his riding skills at the downhill Thunder Mountain track in the Ogden area. As an adult, Travis honed his mechanical skills working on bikes and ski/snowboard equipment at several REI shops. In his spare time, he worked with Mavic as a neutral support mechanic for professional road races around New England. Living in Utah, Travis considers his riding community the whole state.
After spending years working in customer service-oriented jobs, Travis took on one of the most challenging and fulfilling roles possible: becoming a parent and full time Dad. During his five years as a full time Dad, he created many fond memories. One of his favorite is teaching his toddler to shred the Sandy bike park.
Over the last several years, Travis has developed a following of family, friends, friends of friends, and neighbors who repeatedly come back to have their bikes fixed, adjusted, or assembled right out of his home garage bike shop. Many who ride their bike after a tune up by Travis have said that their bike has never run so well. This year Travis and his wife, Niki, have decided to invest as partners in velofix and put Travis’ shop on the road. This new velofix van will be serving North Salt Lake City, Davis, Weber, and Box Elder counties starting in Fall of 2016.
